3 - Season Rules

  • 3.1 - Teams that sign up will be split into smaller divisions.
    • 3.1.1 - The amount of divisions is entirely dependent on the amount of signups. The addition and removal of divisions will be decided as teams sign up.
    Division Names from High to Low are as follows:

    Platinum
    Gold
    Silver
    Steel
    Iron

  • 3.2 - Teams, with exception to Platinum, play in a swiss style format within the regular season.
    • 3.2.1 - Platinum teams play in a round robin format within the regular season.
  • 3.3 - Teams in the regular season are ranked based on match wins.
    If teams are tied on match wins, tie breaking methods are used as follows:

    Tie Break #1 - Score Difference.
    Tie Break #2 - Direct Encounter.
    Tie Break #3 - Median-Buchholz System.
    Tie Break #4 - Round Wins.

  • 3.4 - During the regular season teams play 1 match per week, for 5 weeks.
    • 3.4.1 - Maps played are selected through a pick/ban system every week.
    Teams play 2 maps per match and are selected as follows below, with Team A as the Home Team:
    1. Team A removes one map.
    2. Team A removes one map.
    3. Team B removes one map.
    4. Team B removes one map.
    5. Team A picks one map; Team B chooses the starting side.
    6. Team B picks one map; Team A chooses the starting side.
  • 3.5 - The default match days for the season are TBD.
    • 3.5.1 - Teams may reschedule to a different day if the default day/time does not work for both teams.
    Default Match Times are as follows:

    NA | 9:30 PM EST/EDT
    EU | 21:30 CET/CEST
    AS | 9:30 PM GMT 8+
    SA | 21:30 GMT-3
    OZ | 9:30 PM AEST/AEDT

  • 3.6 - Following the regular season, teams, excluding the Platinum division, move into a single elimination playoff bracket. Playoffs, with exception to Grand Finals, take place on BO3 maps selected from the regular season map pool.
    Teams select maps as follows, with Team A being the upper seeded team:
    1. Team A removes one map.
    2. Team B removes one map.
    3. Team A picks one map; Team B chooses the starting side.
    4. Team B picks one map; Team A chooses the starting side.
    5. Team A removes one map.
    6. Team B picks one map; Team A chooses the starting side.
    • 3.6.1 - The number of teams that enter the single elimination bracket, with exception to the Platinum division, depend on total number of teams in the division. In the case of an odd number of teams, one team will be given a bye week.
    Playoff Structure:
    • Between 4-7 Teams | 4 Team Single Elimination.
    • Between 8-15 Teams | 8 Team Single Elimination.
    • Between 16-31 Teams | 16 Team Single Elimination.
    • 3.6.2 - Platinum teams move into a 6-team double elimination bracket with the bottom two teams starting in the lower bracket.

  • 3.7 - Grand Finals are played on BO5 maps.
    Teams select maps as follows, with Team A being the upper seeded team:
    1. Team A removes one map.
    2. Team B removes one map.
    3. Team A picks one map; Team B chooses the starting side.
    4. Team B picks one map; Team A chooses the starting side.
    5. Team A picks one map; Team B chooses the starting side.
    6. Team B picks one map; Team A chooses the starting side.
    7. Team B picks the remaining map; Team A chooses the starting side.
  • 3.8 - Teams are moved up and down between seasons depending on a team’s performance in the previous season.
    • 3.8.1 - Teams will be moved down an equal amount as the move up process with exception to the lowest division.
    • 3.8.2 - The amount of teams moved up and down is dictated by keeping the total number of teams in divisions at an optimal level.
    Move Up/Down Process:

    Platinum Division
    - 6 Teams Maximum
    - Two lowest teams are knocked out back to Gold Division
    Gold Division
    - 1st-2nd to Platinum
    Silver Division
    - Between 4-7 Teams | 1st to Gold Division
    - Between 8-15 Teams | 1st - 2nd to Gold Division
    - Between 16-31 Teams | 1st - 4th to Gold Division
    Steel Division
    - Between 4-7 Teams | 1st to Silver Division
    - Between 8-15 Teams | 1st - 2nd to Silver Division
    - Between 16-31 Teams | 1st - 4th to Silver Division
    Iron Division
    - Between 4-7 Teams | 1st to Steel Division
    - Between 8-15 Teams | 1st - 2nd to Steel Division
    - Between 16-31 Teams | 1st - 4th to Steel Division

  • 3.9 - Teams must have 3+ members from the previous season to hold their spot in the division.
    • 3.9.1 - Teams created during the offseason will be placed in a division based on previous competitive experience. No team can be placed into Platinum within their first season, with exception to the first TFArena run season.
  • 3.10 - Players cannot be added to the roster after the third week has concluded.
